Information coming from taxi regulators office suggests the taxi regulator Kathleen Doyle will let down the people who most need this service by only requesting a subsidy for wheelchair accessible vehicle (WAV) licence holders to transfer to new standard vehicles.

As soon, the present fleet will not be acceptable under new standards. The taxi advisory council are presently studying her latest review. Taxi regulator Kathleen Doyle has said she wants to increase the WAV fleet. Jim waldron spokesperson for taxi drivers for change said "If the regulator and advisory council were truly trying to achieve this, they would offer all existing taxi licence holders a subsidy to change to WAV. Her suggested proposal will possibly diminish the existing service and the people who require and depend on this service should be concerned. All drivers are agreed the wheelchair accessible fleet could and should be improved. It is the prohibitive prices that prevent drivers choosing this type of vehicle if economics would allow, more drivers would opt for this option".
