Goodbody fiction
Ireland's unemployment figures are close to hitting the 400.000 mark.
For the first time many people find themselves on welfare queue's and
For a sizable portion of our population losing their homes is becoming
a real probability. Not for a long time now has such an air of depression
been seen among the Irish population. Bearing this in mind a report from
Goodbody which was commissioned by the Irish taxi commission stated
there was no collapse in the income of taxi drivers. Indeed in recommended
no changes and went on to state drivers could earn up to 53k a year.
Well the welfare queues in Ireland would suggest the only people who
believe this report are those who published it. The report if anything
should be giving a award for fiction. Tourist numbers are at their lowest
in years. unemployment is heading towards 15%. Eastern European
workers are heading home. Irelands national transport company seeks a
fare increase because it can't find sufficient customer numbers to cover
its operational costs and yet Goodbody publish a report that suggests
this industry is bucking all trends.
Who's Kidding who? 400.000 people chose welfare instead of the 53k
promised by Goodbody. It's only €6.300 for a taxi license and entry is
simple. Unlike other EU countries where drivers are required to have a
full license three years. In Ireland ten minutes after passing your test
you can drive a taxi. However in this banana republic you wont be able
to sit with your child to give them driving lessons until you have your
license two years. Strange isn't it?
In fact Taxi drivers are working more than 70 hours a week. Most of
them paying car and house loans and not in a position to move to
another job and certainly not to leave the job they are in. Standard
are hitting rock bottom, with drivers not confident enough to update
machinery and with drivers on the road for frightening hours. Question
is where did Goodbody get their information for this report. Also it
suggest taxi incomes are 53k based on dublin Taxi drivers incomes in
surveys in 2005 and 2008. Do they honestly think a Mcdonalds take
away Dublin is going to have the same income as a Mcdonalds in Dungarvan?
