Waterford City Taxi drivers may strike over something really important next week. ( found on a blog, its funny),
Waterford's 267 taxi drivers could soon go on strike again next week over 'something really important' relating to the their daily routine of things. Unions are not exactly clear on what the reason is for the strike, but when the time comes, it will surely be a really good one. Some reports have suggested that Waterford taxi drivers have reacted angrily to the drop in temperature in the last week, leaving them cold and unable to leave their cabs for a smoke.
One Taxi driver claimed that there was too many foreigner's stealing Irish jobs and that the price of petrol was too high. He added "The country is f**ked, I'm paying for petrol, i'm paying for food, i'm paying for television and i'm paying for the kids to go to school. Sure that can't be right, can it? I'd be better off on the dole like the rest of the lazy f**kers in this country. The government don't care about the laymen, we're just mules, thats all we are boy, mules!"
Rapid cabs director Mossey Mccabe said "We held off protesting until this last week as we didnt quiet know why we were going to strike. Then, out of the blue, a passenger soiled a cab on Saturday night on the way to Dunmore, as you can understand, this was the last straw. It was a numbing 6 degree's outside and the taxi driver had to get out and clean up the mess himself. Immediately we pulled all our cabs of the road for an hour"
A WWN report concluded that taxi drivers weekly earnings have dropped a massive 2%. Some drivers now have to work a 32 hour week in order to make ends meat.
Taxi drivers will strike Monday to Wednesday this week leaving the city at a stand still. Services will resume Thursday to Sunday. Driver union spokesman Dereck O'Neill stated that "Yes, it was intentional that strike action would take place on off peak days, but not because of profits, we just felt it would be less harmfull to the public, its not them we're fighting, its the system in general"
