The Taxi Drivers Branch of the Independent Workers Union will be urging all of our members and all taxi drivers to vote No in the upcoming referendum on the Lisbon Treaty.

This treaty is the exact same treaty we rejected only a year ago. The guarantees are not legally binding, only promises that they will be introduced at some unknown future date.

In Asia with my kid, going back to see her grandparents, got of the plane in Bangkok and the taxi driver refused to bring me because I was not going far enough. This city is swamped with taxis all clogging the streets. because jobs are rare the drivers are picky about the jobs they do.
The Taxi regulator gets 120k a year and expenses. Ironically her travel
expenses amount to more per klm than clocks up on a Taxi meter. She
has presided over an industry in chaos and managed to set standards
back to the stone age. We now have an industry rife in fraud and lacking
any standards. Question is. Is She worth it?

Derry Coughlan of the Cork branch of the Taxi Federation Might have put

his foot in his mouth on this occasion, but having met him in the

past, the last time being in Portlaoise at a federation meeting, I got

the impression he is not afraid to ruffle a few feathers. He has

giving a lot of unpaid time to the Industry and unlike Union bosses who

recieve large salaries, his commitment is to insure a fair industry not

to line his pockets. If we had a few more like him at the top, ...

What a waste of time. For the amount of fuel you burning, the
145 euro rent and then the more frequent repairs, its simply not
worth it. I made about 40 euro more on a Saturday night than I
would have made on the rank. Fuel was doubled , so Doyle if you
answer is to join a dispatch office. Well there fucked
too!!

“IF I HAD known what I know now, I would have stayed a

mechanic”. That was the verdict of Portlaoise taxi driver

Declan Carroll as Laois taxi drivers took to the streets this

week. Mr Carroll, a taxi driver of eight years, and his

colleagues painted a grim picture for taxi drivers in the county,

insisting that the industry has become overcrowded and seeking

a halt to the issuing of new licences. To show their anguish, over
